Apparently the huge purse is on its way out, just after I figured it out. I saw a story about a Japanese designer who has made clothes for women that can quickly transform into hiding places. You can get a dress that cleverly zips out into a mock Coke machine. As long as no one notices the machine has shoes, you are safe. Since the ads for 3 by 2 foot designer bags are staffed by models the size of my right thigh, this suggested to me that it isn't really a status thing ("I can spend $5K on a purse and you can't") but rather a refuge for harried urban women of a certain size.
There is a TV ad that is making me crazy. Its for a Heineken keg. It features a women who turns into a keg. She is a robot, but she is a pretty powder blue robot with blond flapper hair, big eyes, pouty red lips, nice legs and a keg for a chest. Every man's dream, right? Oh, and she turns into three keg women by the end of the commercial. Even better.
