I just had a nice long chat with my oldest friend in the world - we've known each other since eight grade. She is a wildlife biologist, and always has something interesting to tell me. We talked about polar bears - a topic I have avoided learning about because it is just so depressing to think of losing them. She assured me the situation is quite bad and sent me this site. You can see the story in a nutshell in the map - scroll down a bit. It shows the distribution of the 20 populations of bears, the extent of ice in 2003 and the predicted extent of ice in about 2075. They can't live without the ice.
