Dec. 13th, 2008 11:53 amMy f'list has a number of writers, so I wanted to let you know that people are thinking about a bailout for your sector of the economy. In this week's NYT Book Review Paul Greenberg suggests a plan borrowed from agricultural policy: if you pay about half the writers in the country not to write, then the other half would make more money. Recognizing that writers will take the cash and keep writing anyway, he proposes that the money be given to "the long-suffering spouses and domestic partners of writers" who would be all too happy to enforce the ban and get some chores done around the house.
