I am done grading!!!!!!

I have a list of things to do this break, which starts this very minute and goes until Jan. 16.

First on my list is getting into the exercise habit. Any suggestions?

Also, cleaning and maintenance on the house, slaying the pile of insurance related paperwork, and, oh yeah, prepping a new course from scratch (intro bio and lab), putting my annual portfolio together for the committee that will decide whether I stay another year at my job, finishing the chimp paper and revising the baboon paper.

****excitement dims a bit***

***smooches all around****

With exercise -- don't get too ambitious! Just make it a goal to move more. Like black raven said, 20 min per day of walking. If you want to do more, split it up so you don't get too tired at a stretch. Just work on taking care of yourself. Don't have high expectations -- just work on doing a little bit better on a week to week basis. Some days, you'll be tired and have less energy. That's natural, and don't beat yourself up :-)

I have been working on better exercise for a long time now. It is a slow process.

Oh, do you like swimming? I've found incorporating different things into my routine helps. I *love* lap swimming, and I look forward to doing that once or twice a week.

YAY for holidays!

Nope can't help with the exercise thing - I need more myself.

As for chores either start with a couple of easy things and glow in your achievement of getting them done. OR start with the hardest thing (or the one you want to do least) then everything else will seem easy.

/my wisdom for today.

Woo! Yay for being done with grading!

Exercise... I have to admit, I usually require a partner to exercise regularly. I walk daily because my dog needs to get out, or my nephew wants to go strolling. And I go to Kickboxing because my sister goes and we have each other to hold us accountable. If either of us can't make it, then the other is six times as likely to flake and not go. But if one is going, even if the other doesn't want to, we go.

Just read something in a book for work that applies to this. It said: do not rely on willpower to achieve something. It inevitably fails. What you need to do is establish a habit. It said start small, pick a time to go for a walk or ride a bike or simply stretch, and then just do it every day until it becomes engrained. I'm trying to establish some good habits myself right now, cuz yeah, I've found the willpower thing alone does not cut it.

Just don't forget to have fun in the next few weeks!!
