CGI mayhem

I've seen four movies so far this summer, all making extensive use of computer generated graphics.

I know other people have complained about this, but somewhere in the middle of "Superman" yesterday I reached my limit.  I think it was when a train engine came sailing through the air and crashed spectacularly into something that made a big, showy explosion.  The thinking seems to be that if you can make a train engine come sailing through the air, or a skyscraper collapse, or a tanker explode behind someone, or multiple Iron Man clones fight a herd of bad guys, then why wouldn't you?  In each of the last three movies, it was one scene after another after another of gigantic fiery mashups of machines (no blood) with human(oid) characters dancing here and there to either cause the destruction or get out of the way. You could say that Oblivion overdid the graphics with beautiful "aerial" shots, but that had a point (or maybe I just liked it better!)

The cliches seem to be running wild as well - in two of the movies there were scenes of someone jumping into apparently thin air, only to have a vechicle of some kind catch them underneath (a la Gandolf and the giant eagle when he escaped Isengard), three bad guys with heart tugging back stories, all of them appearing from the past to wreak revenge (two having been put in stasis for crimes), wiser supporting characters helping the troubled hero, and 2D roles for women.

Of the three, I think Star Trek is by far the best:  more character development, somewhat credible women (but an exceedingly pointless shot of someone in her underwear, and a "funny" subtext of women officers as fair game for flirtation), and at least some underpinning for the graphics (of course the Enterprise is hiding underwater!  Where else would it hide and how else would you get the great shot of it breaching?).

I am frankly fed up with the overabundance of CGI.
If it looks like that is what it is all about I not only do not
waste my $$$$$$ at the box office, but don't even bother
putting a hold on it at the library.
It seems to me it has replaced story line......in many films
I know my opinion means nothing but........
BTW the stupidity of those final scenes in Iron Man, first time around, are the reason why I shut it down before it was over and have no interest in seeing #2 etc.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I tried to watch AVENGERS and it had same affect on me.

Thank god it was a library item.
