Feb. 13th, 2006 11:55 pmFeeling better. I heart my flist.
I found out we have an old version of a PhotoDeluxe!! I've been admiring icons and made one to ask for them.......

This is Lychnocanoma, one of the thousands of protozoan genera with complex and beautiful shells. This one cell - about a fifth of a millimeter - does everything animals require multiple cells to do. (More at http://www.radiolaria.org).
Wandering around to see what else I could tell you about them got me to scans of the classic naturalist texts. These are full of illustrations I have always coveted, e.g.,
http://www.zum.de/stueber/haeckel/radiolarien/index.html
......and after years of making very unsatisfactory zeroxes of them I can't believe I can now get them on line in excellent quality.
