Go Amazon!
Jan. 21st, 2013 02:36 pmI got two copies of a book I wanted, and so set out to return one to Amazon today. They gave me the refund and said I didn't have to bother shipping it back. Evidently the cost ($8) wasn't worth their trouble to replace it on the shelves? So I'll donate this one, unless anyone of my flist is reading "The Magister Trilogy" by CS Friedman and wants the last volume, Legacy of Kings. Haven't read it yet but I really liked the first two volumes. Regina spina - did you ever go back to this series?
I finally joined. It somehow figured out that I could be friends with someone at the university I was last employed at in 2004. Bizzare and exactly why I haven't wanted to join - I don't like feeding more information into the grid about me then I have to. But I got tired of missing what my son, daughter and husband were posting so I took the plunge. Let me know if you are on there and want to be friends. Already I can see that it is nothing like LJ and that I won't like it nearly as much.

Dec. 15th, 2012 12:56 pmWish I had some words for the school shooting in CT, but that would involve making some sense of the unthinkable.
Grading is done, I just need a report from someone else on lab grades and I can finish entering them into the registrar's system. He should have had them to me a week ago....
I haven't done anything Christmas-y yet, but it starts now, as does being back on lj. Yay for the break! I am very hopeful that I will get Christmas cards done this year.

Nov. 22nd, 2012 12:59 pmHappy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US!
Sorry I haven't been around, I have been lost in a maze of grading. I had hoped to get it all done by today so I could be work-free for a few days; no luck. My daughter and her boyfriend are coming up from DC - we will meet them in NJ later this afternoon where we are having dinner, and then they will come back here. I'm cleaning the bathroom at the moment. Housework has suffered severely this semester.
Also - the revised version of the paper I had accepted, the one that needed major revisions, got the OK and the editor agreed to take another look at a revised version of the one they flatly rejected. Yay!!

Oct. 30th, 2012 11:01 amWe're fine - a few trees down in the back, but nothing threatening the house. Power outages and flooding all around us. We are about a mile from a power station, so the chances of us losing power are slim, and, if we do, we are among the first to get fixed, since so many people are downstream of what comes across our yard.
NYC and NJ are not fine.

The wind is starting up, but no rain yet. Looks like DC, where my daughter and brother are, will get the most rain. They are on high ground, as we are, so although we are expecting quite a bit of rain we should be OK. Lots of little bridges on the local roads may not. I'm making soup, catching up on work and making necklaces for a craft fair.
